10.4.2.Transferring(UsingNewRefrigerantPiping)
1.Removingtheunit
a.Collectingtherefrigerantintotheoutdoorunitbypumpingdown
Therefrigerantcanbecollectedintotheoutdoorunit(pumpingdown)bypressingtheTESTRUNbutton,evenwhenthe
temperatureoftheroomislow.
Checktomakesurethatthevalvestemsofthe2-wayvalveand3-wayvalvehavebeenopenedbyturningthemcounter-
clockwise.(Removethevalvestemcapsandchecktoseethatthevalvestemsarefullyopenedposition.Alwaysuse
ahexwrench(with4-mmopposingsides)tooperatethevalvestems.)
PresstheTESTRUNbuttonontheindoorunit,andallowpreliminaryfor5-6minutes.(TESTRUNmode)
Afterstoppingtheoperation,lettheunitsitforabout3minutes,thenclosethe2-wayvalvebyturningthevalvestemin
theclockwisedirection.
PresstheTESTRUNbuttonontheindoorunitagain,andafter2-3minutesofoperation,turnthevalvestemofthe3-
wayvalvequicklyintheclockwisedirectiontocloseit,thenstoptheoperation.
Tightenthecapsofthe2-wayvalveand3-wayvalvetothestipulatedtorque.
Removetheconnectionpipes(liquidsideandgasside).
2.Installingtheunit
Installtheunitusingnewrefrigerantpiping.Followtheinstructionsinsection 4.1 toevacuatethepipesconnectingtheindoor
andoutdoorunits,andthepipesoftheindoorunit,andcheckforgasleaks.
10.4.3.ACUnitsReplacement(UsingExistingRefrigerantPiping)
WhenreplacingandR410AACunitwithanotherR410AACunit,youshouldre-flaretherefrigerantpiping.Eventhoughthe
replacementACunitusestheR410A,problemsoccurwhen,forexample,eithertheACunitmakerortherefrigeratingmachineoil
isdifferent.
WhenreplacinganR22ACunitwithanR410AACunit,thefollowingchecksandcleaningproceduresarenecessarybutare
difficulttodobecauseofthechemicalcharacteristicsoftherefrigeratingmachineoil(asdescribedinitemsc)andd)ofsection
10.1.1.(2)).Inthiscase,youshouldusenewrefrigerantpipingratherthantheexistingpiping.
1.Pipingcheck
BecauseofthedifferentpressurecharacteristicsofR22andR410A,thedesignpressurefortheequipmentis1.6times
different.thewallthicknessofthepipingmustcomplywiththatshowninTable10,butthisisnoteasytocheck.Also,evenif
thethicknessiscorrect,theremaybeflattenedorbentportionsmidwaythroughthepipingduetosharpcurves.Buriedsections
ofthepipingalsocannotbechecked.
2.Pipecleaning
Alargequantityofrefrigeratingmachineoil(mineraloil)adherestoexistingpipesduetotherefrigerationcyclecirculation.Ifthe
pipesareusedjustastheyarefortheR410Acycle,thecapacitywillbeloweredduetotheincompatibilityofthisoilwiththe
R410A,orirregularitiesmayoccurintherefrigerationcycle.Forthisreason,thepipingmustbethoroughlycleaned,butthisis
difficultwiththepresenttechnology.
10.4.4.RefrigerantCompatibility(UsingR410ARefrigerantinR22ACsandViceVersa)
DonotoperateanexistingR22ACwiththenewR410Arefrigerant.Doingsowouldresultinimproperfunctioningoftheequipment
ormalfunction,andmightleadtoamajoraccidentsuchasanexplosionintherefrigerationcycle.Similarly,donotoperatean
R410AACwithR22refrigerant.ThechemicalreactionbetweentherefrigeratingmachineoilusedinR410AACsandthechlorine
thatiscontainedinR22wouldcausetherefrigeratingmachineoiltodegradeandleadtomalfunction.
10.4.5.RechargingRefrigerantDuringServicing
Whenrechargingisnecessary,insertthespecifiedamountofnewrefrigerantinaccordancewiththefollowingprocedure.
1.Connectthecharginghosetotheserviceportoftheoutdoorunit.
2.Connectthecharginghosetothevacuumpumpadaptor.Atthistime,fullyopenthe2-wayvalveand3-wayvalve.
3.FullyopenthehandleLoofthemanifoldgauge,turnonthepowerofthevacuumpumpandcontinuethevacuumprocessfor
atleastonehour.
4.Confirmthatthelowpressuregaugeshowsareadingof-0.1Mpa(-76cmHg),thenfullyclosethehandleLo,andturnoffthe
vacuumpump.Waitfor1-2minutes,thenchecktomakesurethattheneedleoftheLowpressuregaugehasnotreturned.See
Fig.13fortheremainingstepsofthisprocedure.
